Recording Layer
This is the sensitive layer, deposited over the substrate, which reacts in a specific way when a high power laser beam is focused on it. Each recording technology uses an appropriate recording layer--which can be Photo resist, a special dye, special alloy, or a sandwich of sensitive films. The initial glass disc or master (for reproducing CD-ROMs) usually has a Photo resist recording layer.
