More Rumors For Apple's Next iPhone

Apple next iPhone will reporteddly be slimmer thanks to its new thinner screen, the Wall Street Journal said, citing people familiar with the matter.

The new display is currently being manufactured by Asian component makers, Sharp, Japan Display Inc and LG Display Co Ltd who are mass producing the panels for the iPhone using so-called in-cell technology, WSJ said citing sources.

The so-called in-cell technology incorporates the touch screen sensors into the LCD screen itself. The new technology will also boost displayed image quality, and help Apple cut costs as it would no longer have to buy touch panels and LCDs from separate suppliers, the report added. This means that Taiwan's Wintek Corp and TPK Holding Co Ltd, which supplied the touch-panel layer of the iPhone 4S screen, did not get orders for the next iPhone, the paper said citing people with knowledge of the matter.

Regardless of the many rumors surrounding the next iPhone, there's no official confirmation that it will actually have a larger screen, and no firm facts about its design have been revealed. The next iPhone is likely to be officially revealed in the fall.
