New Thunderbolt Chip Coming Next Year

Intel reportedly plans to release a new version of its Thunderbolt chip in the second quarter of 2013 along with the launch its Haswell processors.

The new Thunderbolt chip codenamed 'Redwood Ridge' will support 10Gbps data rate, DisplayPort v1.1a as well as DisplayPort v1.2 Redriver, Digitimes.com reported today from Taiwan.

Intel will further boost the speeds of Thunderbolt in 2014, with the release of the 'Falcon Ridge' chip, which will offer 20Gbps speeds through two channels.
