Amazon Event Hints At New Kindles

Amazon has scheduled a press conference for Sept. 6, suggesting that new Kindle e-readers and tablets are coming soon.

The only information provided for the event is that it is set for 10:30 a.m. Pacific time in Santa Monica, Calif.

New Kindle tablets will likely be a major focus at the event. According to reports, Amazon plans to launch a larger Kindle Fire to compete with Apple's iPad.

Amazon may also boost the specs on its 7-inch Kindle Fire tablet, while dropping the price of the original to $150.

Other rumors also suggest the release of a front-lit Kindle.
