Sharp is showcasing an 90-inch AQUOS LED TV, IGZO-based displays and a new sound bar at IFA in Germany.

Sharp and Semiconductor Energy Laboratory (SEL) have jointly developed a new type of high crystalline oxide semiconductor on an IGZO basis. This technology facilitates the construction of touch-sensitive screen displays for tablet PCs or smart phones with significantly improved and higher resolution. The displays have a clearly higher translucency and therefore use less power than those currently on the market.

"IGZO is a real quantum leap in display technology. The technology can be used for, among others, mobile terminal devices such as smart phones, for which the demands on screen resolution are constantly increasing, but also in TVs", explains Alberico Lissoni, Vice President Consumer Electronics at Sharp Europe. Compared to traditional LCD TFT displays, IGZO products have a significantly higher translucency. This improvement means that smaller or fewer LEDs are needed for the backlighting. These new displays are not only smaller, they also have a much less power consumption.

"Sharp will be introducing LCD displays with the new IGZO technology worldwide. We are only at the start of this new development and we strongly believe IGZO has a huge potential," Lissoni continued.

Sharp announced that it will be producing three panel varieties with IGZO technology: a 10-inch LCD panel with 2560 x 1600 pixels, a 7-inch panel with 1280 x 800 pixels and a 32-inch panel with 3840 x 2160 pixels.

The Japanese company is also showcasing the HT-SB60, a 2.1 audio system which combines a wireless subwoofer, black/metallic design and user friendliness. The wireless subwoofer gives users the freedom to place it anywhere in the room, there is no need to place it directly next to the sound bar. The only thing you need is an AC power plug.

The HT-SB60 is fitted with two HDMI inputs and one HDMI output with Audio Return Channel (ARC) which enables users to easily connect the sound bar to the TV, without having to use extra audio cables. The system can be controlled via the TV remote control.

Together with the active subwoofer, the black/metallic 2.1 audio system, delivers an output of a total of 310 Watts (2 x 80W + 150W) and possesses HDSS (High Definition Sound Standard). Another practical aspect of the system is how the sound bar automatically turns on and off once the television set is switched on and off.

The HT-SB60 will be available in October 2012 for a recommended retails price of €349.

Finally Sharp has on display a breathtaking 90-inch (229 cm) AQUOS LED TV. With the introduction of the 90-inch AQUOS LED TV, Sharp is further extending its big screen line up. Standing at over 1.20 meters tall and spanning more than 2 meters, this 90-inch AQUOS is the world?s largest LED TV. Despite its size, Sharp claims that the TV's picture quality is stunning, displaying crisp content at the highest HD resolution available of 1080p.

The TV is weighing 64 kilogram?s (without stand) and at less than 12 centimetres deep, allowing for easy mounting on a wall.

The AQUOS NET+ platform enables direct access to numerous apps such as YouTube, Twitter and the TV stations' media libraries. In addition, this TV has a built-in triple HD tuner (DVB-T/DVB-C/DVB-S2) and a media player which allows common photo, video and music formats to be played from USB sticks or directly from a home network. Sharp?s new 90-inch class LED TV is a full HD active 3DTV.

The 90-inch (229 cm) AQUOS LED TV will be available on the European market from the summer of 2013.
