Baidu Releases Mobile Web Browser

China's search engine Baidu on Monday relased an Android-based mobile browser capable of playing web games and videos without a media player.

The Baidu Mobile Browser is about 20 percent faster than its rivals based on internal tests, Baidu says. The browser will compete with UCWeb 's UC Browser, Google's Chrome and default Android browser, and Apple 's Safari browser.

Baidu's mobile browser also allows users to access a web-based mobile applications and run high-definition video through the browser without having to download apps or any media player.

Baidu is also offering other mobile products such as its mobile operating system and cheap smartphones launched with partners. The company hopes that 80 percent of China's Android handsets to have downloaded the Baidu Mobile Browser by the end of 2012.

Baidu Inc will also invest more than 10 billion yuan ($1.6 billion) to set up its cloud computing centre, Baidu's chief financial officer Jennifer Li said on Monday.
