Toshiba To Showcase Its Latest Technologies At CEATEC

Toshiba today announced the line-up of products and technologies that it will bring to CEATEC, Japan's largest consumer electronics show.

Toshiba will showcase the company's latest digital products, including a large-screen 84-inch Quad Full HD(4K) resolution TV, brand new Windows 8 Ultrabook, and new cloud services.

CEATEC will run from October 2 to October 6 at Makuhari Messe and Toshiba will be at booth 5B91 in Hall 5.

Toshiba's 84-inch TV offers enhanced images with a Quad Full HD (4K) screen that displays images at four times (quadruple) Full HD resolution. The demonstration is powered by REGZA CEVO ENGINE 4K, Toshiba's new high-performance multi-processor platform.

Toshiba plans to put on sale worldwide next year three 4K models, Masahiko Fukakushi, president and CEO of Toshibas digital products division, said at a Tokyo news conference on Thursday.

Along with the 84-inch model, Toshiba will release a 60-inch and the a 50-inch model. Pricing will also be announced closer to launch but will be competitive with other companies, Fukakushi said.

Toshiba's first generation 4K TV, a 55-inch model, is currently on sale in Japan at 750,000 yen (US$9,650). On Thursday, Sony said it will sell an 84-inch 4K television in Japan from November 23 for 1.68 million yen.

The question is whether there will be 4K content available by next year. At present only the movie industry has started the shift to 4K. TV broadcasters have only recently spent on upgrading to high definition. The Blu-ray Disc format hasn't been extended to 4K either.

Toshiba's new Japanese TV models, the Z7 series and J7 series will be also showcased at CEATEC, ahead of their late October launch. Also on display will be the brand new Z7 series - the "time-shift machine" - that can record up to approx.40 hours, six terrestrial broadcasts and suggest programs to viewers based on their previous choices.

REGZA Cloud Services "TimeOn" is a new cloud-based service to enhance communication on social network services (SNS) about TV and visual contents."TimeOn" not only make people to contents connected, but also enhances people to people relation more active and fun. "TimeOn" service will be launched in late October, with the new Regza Z7 and J7 series as well as apps on tablets and smartphones to follow in November.

Toshiba's new external hard drives "CANVIO", which comes with the 500GB slim size and 2TB desktop size; and the 2.5-inch 1TB hybrid drive, that combines HDD and NAND-flash memories, will be also on display.
