Samsung To Release Tizen Smartphone Soon

Samsung Electronics will finally launch a new smartphone in Russia and India based on its own operating system Tizen, people familiar with the matter said, according to the Wall Street Journal on Sunday.

Although Samsung hasnot comented on the report, the South Korean technology giant is planning an event in Moscow in the coming weeks, where it will introduce a smartphone running on the Tizen operating system.

Samsung ha salready installed the Tizen operating system on the second wave of Galaxy Gear devices.

This would be the latest step in Samsung's push to compete more directly in mobile software and services with Google.

Earlier this year, Japanese carrier NTT Docomo canceled plans to launch a Tizen smartphone, saying that the timing wasn't right.
