AMD Launches the Low Profile FirePro W4300 Graphics Card for CAD

Today at Autodesk University 2015, AMD unveiled the AMD FirePro W4300 professional graphics card that fits both small form factor (SFF) and tower workstations.

The AMD FirePro W4300 card integrates a powerful GPU and 4GB of GDDR5 memory within a low-profile design for installation in SFF as well as full-sized systems.

The graphics card is optimized for the latest CAD applications including Autodesk AutoCAD, Inventor as well as Revit, Dassault Systemes SOLIDWORKS and CATIA, PTC Creo, Siemens NX, and more. Engineering professionals can work with large geometry-intense models and apply GPU-accelerated features in their projects, such as the new Order Independent Transparency (OIT) mode supported in SOLIDWORKS. Users can help increase productivity by visualizing their workflows across up to six displays, and up to 4K and 5K resolution.

Based on AMD Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture to optimize utilization and maximize performance, the AMD FirePro W4300 card features
4GB GDDR5 GPU memory. It GPU is based on AMD's Bonaire GPU, offering improved performance and better features than the Cape Verde based W4100 did in the same performance and size profile.

The W4300 ships with 768 stream processors enabled, clocked at 930MHz. While the previous W5100 model was a 75W card, the W4300 brings this down to just 50W.

AMD says that AMD PowerTune technology dynamically optimizes GPU power usage and AMD ZeroCore Power technology reduces power consumption at idle.

In addition, AMD Eyefinity multi-display technology that allows the use of up to six ultra-high resolution displays.

Four DisplayPort 1.2a connections standard (with support for up to six DisplayPort monitors via MST-enabled hub) and AMD FreeSync technology enables GPU control of the display refresh rate for tear-free display updates.

The AMD FirePro W4300 professional graphics card is currently in production and availability from workstation OEMs is planned for 2016.

The W4300 will be launching with an MSRP of $379, though the street price for the card is more likely to be $299. The primary competition for the W4300 will be NVIDIA?s Quadro K1200, which is based on the company's GM107 GPU and like the W4300 is the top low-profile card in NVIDIA's product stack.
