MWC: Samsung Launches The Galaxy Tab S3, Galaxy Book, And New Gear VR With Controller


Samsung Electronics launched the Galaxy Tab S3 and the Galaxy Book new tablets on Sunday, along with its first-ever Gear VR headset with a controller.



The Galaxy Tab S3 and the Galaxy Book were presented at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This year, Samsung has postponed the presentation of the Galaxy S8, its next key device. The company will officially announce the S8 on March 29 at a Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2017 press event in New York.

The Galaxy Tab S3 comes with a 9.7-inch Super AMOLED display and the Galaxy Book is offered in a 10.6-inch TFT LCD version and 12-inch Super AMOLED version. Bith tablets support:

  • HDR (High Dynamic Range) Video Content: Galaxy Tab S3 and Galaxy Book 12-inch support videos in HDR (10bit colored).
  • Samsung Flow: For a secure login, Samsung Flow uses biometric authentication to log-in and can wirelessly tether compatible devices to transfer documents from a mobile device to a tablet. It also syncs message notifications.
  • Refined S Pen: The S Pen has a smaller 0.7mm tip and increased pressure sensitivity. It also includes features such as Screen Off Memo to quickly jot down notes, PDF Annotation for easy editing and professional-level drawing with Advanced Drawing Tools.

Both tablets include a 13-megapixel rear camera which features auto focus and a 5-megapixel front camera. The tablets also include expandable storage and more power efficiency with fast-charge capabilities, supporting up to 12 hours of video playback on the Galaxy Tab S3 and up to 10.5 hours of video playback on the Samsung Book (12-inch).

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 supports 4K video playback and a Super AMOLED display. It is the first Samsung tablet to feature quad-stereo speakers tuned by AKG by HARMAN and includes Vulkan API for superior graphics and Game Launcher for an enhanced user interface and personalized gaming experience, as well as modes like Do Not Disturb for uninterrupted gameplay.

Samsung Galaxy Book

Samsung and Microsoft worked together to design the Samsung Galaxy Book, a new 2-in-1 designed with the mobile enterprise customer in mind. Built with Windows 10, the Samsung Galaxy Book weighs less than two pounds and provides access to the full desktop Microsoft Office experience in an ultra-portable 2-in-1 design. The 12-inch touchscreen enables you to easily use Windows Ink or markup and draw on websites in Microsoft Edge, and the S Pen is equipped with the tilt SDK for Windows Ink, providing artists with advanced shading and brushstrokes. The Galaxy Book also allows you to use your voice to talk to Cortana, comes with a 7th generation Intel Core processor and provides up to 10 hours of battery life.

 

 

For enterprise-grade performance, the Samsung Galaxy Book 12-inch is equipped with a 7th Generation Intel Core i5 processor, Dual Core 3.1GHz and the 10.6-inch with an Intel Core m3 processor, Dual core 2.6GHz.

New Gear VR With Controller

Samsung also today the Samsung Gear VR with Controller powered by Oculus, the company's first Gear VR headset with a controller.

The Controller features an ergonomic, curved design, offering one-hand control and better motion interaction with minimized head movement. In addition, the Controller provides users with:

The Gear VR with Controller offers 42mm lenses with 101-degree FOV (Field of View) and distortion correction technology to minimize motion sickness. The Samsung Gear VR with Controller will support both micro USB and USB Type-C port with a converter in-box. Additionally, the Gear VR will have a strap on the headset to hold the Controller when it is not in use.
