Teac USA ships 16x10x40 CDR-W drive

"...TEAC USA today announces the shipping of its new 16x10x40 CD-RW drive, an internal desktop PC peripheral used for the writing and rewriting of data and audio files onto CD-Recordable and CD-Rewritable media. The TEAC 16x10x40 CD-RW drive writes data or audio files at 16X (CD-R), rewrites at 10X (CD-RW) and can playback at 40X (CD-ROM) speeds, coinciding with the fastest CD-R and CD-RW media available today. Four times as fast as the industry's standard 4X drives, the 16x10x40 is capable of writing an entire 650MB CD-R disc in less than 5 minutes, storing data and/or audio, including large presentations or graphics such as photos and home videos.

The new drive delivers a maximum digital extraction rate of 32X and provides a smooth, even flow of data supported by a 2MB data buffer. The TEAC 16x10x40 also has technology in place to prevent buffer underrun errors, insuring successful recordings with no bad discs. In addition, its 80ms average access time is the industry's fastest for CD-RW drives, which provides for high-speed database searches.

The internal 16x10x40 CD-RW kit includes everything needed for easy installation, including one blank TEAC CD-R and CD-RW media and installation cables. In addition, the 16x10x40 is the first CD-RW drive to come bundled with the latest version of Easy CD Creator by Roxio, a digital media company from Adaptec. The 16x10x40 CD-RW is available as a complete kit for Windows 98/Me/NT4 and Windows 2000 Professional at an MSRP of $279.00..."
