Intel is expected to unveil a new smartphone platform powered by new 22nm and 14nm Atom processors at the 2013 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, February 25-28.
The success of the new platform is crucial for the company as it tries to gain a merit of the smartphone market, which has been dominated by chips based on ARM technology.
Intel's currently available Medfield platform has been adopted by Orange and smartphone vendors including Lenovo and ZTE, India-based Lava International and Motorola Mobility. However, shipments of these smartphones have so far been in low volumes.
Intel is also expected to offer entry-level phones with mobile telecom carriers in emerging markets such as China and India.
