Message Text: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) said their sales for February declined in Febryuary, mainly due to the fewer working days in the month.

TSMC said its consolidated sales for February fell 13.2 percent from January to NT$41.18 billion (US$1.39 billion), although the figure was up 21.5 percent from a year earlier.

In the first two months of this year, TSMC's consolidated sales totaled NT$88.62 billion, up 29.4 percent from a year earlier.

UMC posted NT$8.73 billion in consolidated sales in February, down 7.6 percent from the previous month after the chip maker included part of the sales of its Chinese subsidiary -- Hejian Technology Co. -- on its books.

However, the foundry's February sales were up 3.41 percent from a year earlier, UMC said.
