Japan Display has developed a 5.2-inch full-HD OLED for mobile devices and is working towards to massively produce it.
The 5.2-inch RGBW display has a resolution of 423ppi. For comparison, the latest Samsung Galaxy S 4 uses a 5-inch 1920x1080 (440 ppi) AMOLED panel.
JDI implemented the crystalline white OLED and the LTPS high-definition technologies for the AMOLED prototype and is currently working with equipment manufacturers and material suppliers in Japan in order to tackle the challenges of mass production.
JDI had previously developed a 4.5-inch / 1,280 x 720 pixels, 326ppi OLED prototype.
Currently, the AMOLED business model remains limited to a single source - Samsung Display - and customer, Samsung Mobile. JDI's latest development could help the growth of the technology, altough mass production requires large scale investments.
