LG Electronics will announce at CES a TV that will run on the "webOS" operating system, which was acquired from Hewlett-Packard Co. earlier this year.
The operating system was originally developed by Palm . to power smartphones. HP acquired Palm in 2010 and used webOS to power a tablet and its smartphone models. But the system failed to gain traction with the developers who write apps for devices and the devices didn't sell well.
LG plans to showcase an Internet-connected television model powered by webOS in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Details about the new TV are not available, and it would be ineresting to see which of the features familiar from the mobile version of the webOS will be adopted on the new TV.
Samsung has also long been working on a new operating system with Intel. Tizen is expected to power smartphones and TVs next year.
