 Panasonic Unveils To Toughpad Handsets At MWC

Message Text: Panasonic will make a return to the smartphone market with two models, marketed at business customers.

The new Toughpad handsets are on display at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona.They will first be available in Japan with a price tag of about 130,000 yen ($1,300), before being rolled out to Europe and the United States.

The handsets feature five-inch screens, they are three centimeters thick each weighs about 430 grams. Their ruggedized casing also houses a bar code scanner and an 8-megapixel rear camera. According to Panasonic, they can be dunked in water, withstand a fall of up to three meters and function in temperatures in a range from minus 20 degrees to 60 degrees celsius.



The FZ-E1 version runs Windows Embedded 8 Handheld on a Qualcomm 2.3GHz processor, while the FZ-X1 runs Android 4.2.2 on a Qualcomm 1.7GHz processor.

They are the first tablets to have 3G and LTE in the Toughpad lineup.
