Message Text: AMD seems to be working on an external graphics card solution for notebooks, with an official announcement to be expected at GDC or even earlier.

AMD’s Robert Hallock posted on Facebook a picture of Alienware’s Graphics Amplifier saying that many gamers could give up their mITX LAN rig if their notebook had the potential to serve the role of a gaming machine, taking advantage of the power of an external GPU equipped with standardized connectors, cables, drivers, plug'n'play, OS support, etc.

All the existing ones have some manner of proprietary connection, locking it down to that company’s hardware ecosystem. Hallock’s post unveil AMD’s intentions to offer a universal solution.

AMD has not provided any additional comment.
