Samsung Electronics plans to equip its new Galaxy A series, which will be released in early 2017, with 12-megapixel front cameras.

Performance of front camera of a flagship model called Galaxy S8 will also be improved greatly. It is likely that Smartphone manufacturers will fiercely compete against each other for marketing of their selfie functions.

Current Galaxy A series (A3, A5, and A7 models) are equipped with 5-megapixel front cameras. The new A3 model will get an 8-megapixel front shooter, while the A5 and A7 models will be equipped with the larger 12-megapixel front camera.

Samsung also plans to improve the performance of the front cameras that will be used in the upcoming Galaxy S8s, set for debut in the first half of 2017. These will get AF (Auto-Focus) actuators for both the rear and front cameras.

Besides the larger cameras. the new Galaxy A series will get premium specifications such as edge displays, waterproof and dustproof protection and USB-C Type connectors.
