Sharp President Tai Jeng-wu said Saturday the company is considering re-entering the information technology hardware business, including personal computers but not smartphones.

Nikkei reports that the Japanese electronics manufacturer is weighing the possibility selling PCs and other devices made by its Taiwanese parent, Hon Hai Precision Industry, under the Sharp brand.

Tai made the announcement at an event for Sharp retirees at the company's headquarters in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture.

The company previously sold laptops and other products under its Mebius brand, but it pulled the plug on the business in 2010.
