 Sony Launches The a9 24MP 20fps Full-frame Sports Camera

Sony has announced the alpha 9 high-end full frame mirrorless camera in an event in New York. The a9 has a 24MP, stacked CMOS sensor for super-fast readout, allowing a completely silent electronic shutter.

The camera can shoot at 20 frames per second for more than 200 Raw frames.

Sony is also expanding its Pro support program. This allows it to shoot at 20 frames per second with no blackout. It features 693 on-sensor phase detection points, covering over 90% of the frame. It also has five-axis image stabilization that offers 5 stops of correction.

The camera has a 1280 x 960 (QuadVGA) resolution viewfinder that runs at 120 fps.

It also featuress twin SD card slots and Sony says the battery has twice the capacity of previous models. A battery grip holding two batteries will also be available.

The a9 will be available in May 2017 at a cost of around $4500.
