Samsung Electronics on Friday released the Galaxy J2 Pro, a new budget smartphone targeting students seeking to avoid distractions by restricting access to 3G and 4G networks as well as WiFi.

The device supports basic features such as phone calls, text messages and cameras but cannot access the Internet. The company said the model will not only be attractive to students but to seniors as well.

Samsung said the smartphone will still come with a dictionary application to help students find vocabulary words without having to access the web. The dictionary app supports Korean and English languages.

The smartphone comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera along with a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. It has a qHD Super AMOLED display, a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB RAM, a 2,600mAh replaceable battery and a microSD slot (16GB).

It comes in black and gold colors with a price tag of 199,100 won (US$185).

Samsung Electronics said students purchasing the Galaxy J2 Pro through June will receive a full refund through a special promotion if they buy the upper-level Galaxy S or Galaxy A smartphones after the end of their college exams.
