Amazon.com Inc. is working on robots for the home, with prototypes to be able to navigate from room to room like driverless cars, Bloomberg reports.

The domestic robot project is codenamed "Vesta," according to the report. Developement is held at Amazon's Lab126 hardware research and development division based in Sunnyvale, California.

Amazon said the company doesn't comment on "rumors and speculation."

Amazon robots could be a sort of mobile Alexa, accompanying customers in parts of their home where they don't have Echo devices. They could use advanced cameras and computer vision software and in order to navigate through homes.

Amazon.com's subsidiary Amazon Robotics is already designing robots, which are deployed in Amazon warehouses to move around goods.

Companies including Sony and LG Electronics have also showcased home robot models. In January at CES, LG showed off a robot called Cloi. Sony demonstrated a new version of a robotic dog called Aibo.
