Message Text: Facebook will introduce an authorization process for users who manage Facebook pages with a large U.S. following, it said here on Friday, seeking to help prevent abuse on the social network.

Pages give businesses, causes and communities the ability to connect with people around the world. In April, Facebook announced plans to help ensure these connections are authentic and more transparent. Today the company is introducing Page publishing authorization starting with people that manage a Page with a large audience in the US. Facebook is also adding primary country location and Page merge details to the Page Info tab that was introduced in June.

Authorization asks people who manage these Pages to secure their account with two-factor authentication and confirm their primary country location.

If a Page manager requires authorization, they'll receive a notice at the top of their News Feed to begin the process. Facebook says this should only take a few minutes to complete. People won't be able to post on their Page if they don't complete the process.

Enforcement will follow shortly this month.

Facebook-owned photo-sharing app Instagram will also roll out similar features in the coming weeks.

Last week, the social network said it identified a new coordinated political influence campaign on its platform to mislead users ahead of November's U.S. congressional elections.
