Plasmon today announced that it has released its UDO (Ultra
Density Optical) Desktop Drive with a USB 2.0 interface.
The drive provides compliant, high-capacity and cost-effective
archival storage for departmental and small office environments.
Previously available with a SCSI interface, the addition of USB
has increased the flexibility of the drive and simplified
integration into a wider range of user environments.
UDO is the standard for professional archival storage, delivering
all the traditional strengths expected from optical storage such
as record authenticity and media longevity, but at a much higher
capacity and lower cost than previous generation products.
Steve Tongish, marketing director EMEA at Plasmon, commented,
"The USB version makes it much simpler to integrate a UDO Desktop
Drive into small archive environments. Our customers can now
install a UDO drive in minutes on their PC or workstation without
the need for an additional SCSI interface card. The UDO Desktop
Drive can be used by itself as a removable storage device or in
combination with document and image management applications,
providing a truly professional archive solution for the desktop."
The UDO Desktop Drive package includes a UDO drive, external
power supply, interface / power cables, one piece of 30GB UDO
Rewritable media and software drivers for Windows and Linux
operating systems.
