RIM Sued by NXP Over Patents

Research in Motion has been sued by NXP Semiconductor NV for allegedly infringing six patents by selling products such as the BlackBerry Torch, Curve and Bold.

NXP claims that BlackBerry Torch, Playbook, Curve and Bold are using the patented inventions without permission. Other patents are related cover computer bus systems, mobile phones with GPS receivers, circuit manufacturing, the polishing of the surface of wafers, and patterning of layers on the wafer.

NXP filed the complaint yesterday in U.S. federal court in Orlando, Florida. The Dutch chipmaker seeks cash compensation and a court order to block further use of its inventions.
