IE10 To Integrate Flash in Both Metro and Desktop Modes

Sidesteping from its 'no plug-in' promise for Windows 8, Microsoft has confirmed the integration of Flash Players in Metro IE10 on both Windows 8 and Windows RT OS.

Microsoft confirmed the integration of Flash on Thursday.

"The Windows 8 Release Preview includes a new power-optimized, touch-friendly Adobe Flash Player for IE10 that is updated through Windows Update. Adobe Flash content on compatible websites will now play in the new Metro style web browser. This optimized Flash Player is integrated with IE 10 in Windows 8," Rob Mauceri, the group program manager for Internet Explorer wrote in a blog post.

He explained that some popular websites require Adobe Flash and do not offer HTML5 alternatives for Metro style IE.

According to earlier mIcrosoft's statements, the company would not allow plug-ins for IE10 on Metro, including Flash Player, in either Windows 8 or its ARM-based Windows RT version, in order to save bettery life on portable devices. "Running Metro style IE plug-in free improves battery life as well as security, reliability, and privacy for consumers," Dean Hachamovitch, the Microsoft's lead executive for the browser, had said last September.

Microsoft has developed two versions of IE10 for Windows 8. One will run in the Metro interface and the other will run on the traditional desktop. Since both rely on the same rendering engine, both versions utilize the integrated Flash Player.
