Google Showcases Talking Shoes at SXSW

Google showcased at the SXSW conference a pair of internet-connected sneakers that can track a user's every movement and shout encouraging messages in their general direction.

The Adidas sneakers are part of Google's new advertising innovation program called "Art, Copy and Code". It is actually an experiment in how you can use connected objects to tell stories on the Web.

The sneakers feature an accelerometer, gyroscope, pressure sensor, as well as a speaker from which up to 250 different spoken phrases can be broadcast.

The shoes would function a lot like many of the fitness gadgets ucurrently available, which attempt you to motivate you more. When you have been sitting for more than an hour they might yell at you to walk around.

The shoes were developed in partnership with interactive media collective YesYesNo, making them a possible advertising platform.
