LivingSocial Website Hacked

Daily deals website LivingSocial was recently hacked and the accounts of its 50 million members were exposed.

LivingSocial recently experienced a cyber-attack on our computer systems that resulted in unauthorized access to some customer data from our servers. We are actively working with law enforcement to investigate this issue.

The information accessed includes names, email addresses, date of birth for some users, and encrypted passwords -- technically 'hashed' and 'salted' passwords, according to . LivingSocial. The company clarified that its database that stores customer credit card information was not affected or accessed.

LivingSocial has expired the old passwords of its memmbers and has asked them to create a new.

"We are actively working with law enforcement to investigate this issue," LivingSocial said.

LivingSocial is a Washington, DC-based Internet firm that provides users with discounts at local businesses. The company reportedly has 70 million members worldwide.
