Nokia Phablet Launch Scheduled For Next Month

Nokia has delayed the launch of a large "phablet" device, originally planned for late September, following a deal to sell its handset business and license patents to Microsoft, according to a Monday report.

Nokia had planned to announce new devices including a smartphone with a screen larger than 5 inches prior to the Microsoft deal, "sources familiar with the plan" told Reuters.

A launch event was also scheduled to take place in New York late this month but is has been pushed back by several weeks. Now the company is teasing on Twitter with an event that will be held on October 22nd, These Nokia is expected to be launch of the six-inch Lumia 1520 and possibly its first Windows tablet, possibly code-named 'Sirius'.

The Lumia 1520 is said to have Windows Phone 8 GDR3 onboard, a 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and microSD card support.

The Sirius is a 10.1-inch tablet with a 1080p display, a 6.7-megapixel camera, a quad-core processor, and Windows RT installed.

The October event teaser, posted on the Nokia Twitter feed, offers the hashtags #blazing, #stories, and #innovationreinvented:



Nokia and Microsoft are operating as separate companies as their deal has not yet closed.

Nokia did not provide any comment.
