Nokia World: Meet The Nokia Lumia 2520 Tablet, Nokia Lumia 1520 And 1320 Smartphones

Nokia has finally taken the wraps off its first Windows tablet, the Nokia Lumia 2520, running on Windows RT 8.1, the the Nokia Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320 large screen smartphones along with new Asha phones at its Nokia World event held today in Abu Dhabi.

Nokia Lumia 2520

The Nokia Lumia 2520 is Nokia's debut in the tablet market. The Windows tablet is running on Windows RT 8.1. It has a high definition 1080p, 10.1-inch screen made using Gorilla Glass 2 for toughness, and has been made to give less reflection, high brightness range as well as a wide-viewing angle.

It comes equipped with a 4G LTE modem, WiFi, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and its battery is capable of such feats as playing video for ten hours non-stop without a charge. The battery can also go from zero to 80 per-cent charged in an hour.

Alongside the Nokia Lumia 2520, Nokia released the Nokia Power Keyboard, which offers a keyboard with a touchpad, of course, but also wraps right round the tablet to offer protection without needing a separate case. The Power Keyboard also contains an extra battery for up to five hours extra use, plus two USB ports.

On the back, there’s a 6.7-megapixel camera with ZEISS optics and an f1.9 aperture. This is supported by two new apps from Nokia – Storyteller and Video Director. On the front, a secondary 2-megapixel camera.

The Windows RT 8.1 operating system offers Microsoft Outlook and Office preinstalled. Also, Nokia is offering a new version of HERE Maps and Nokia Music onboard, for streaming and offline Mixes.

Presented in red, cyan, white and black, the Nokia Lumia 2520 will initially be available for sale in the US, UK and Finland at an estimated price of $499 before local taxes and subsidies. It will be spreading to other markets shortly after. AT&T will sell the 2520 tablet in the U.S.

Standing tall: The Nokia Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320

Both the new Nokia Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320 devices feature 6-inch screens to make the most of the enhanced Windows Phone Start screen and three columns for Live tiles.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 features a 1080p full HD screen, 20MP PureView camera with optical image stabilization, enhanced sensor technology, oversampling and outstanding zoom capabilities, along with the latest imaging app called Nokia Camera.

The new Nokia Storyteller app relives your memories in a new and dynamic way and allows you to share better stories with your friends. Nokia Storyteller automatically integrates the pictures from your phone with HERE location information and creates a chronological picture journey on a map. Look up points of interests, get contact information and check out user reviews all directly from Nokia Storyteller. It also automatically plays back animated pictures, videos and smart photos.

With Twitter Vine soon available for the first time for Windows Phone 8, you can capture and tweet short looping videos to share more via social media. Or maybe you just want to share all of your new photos and quick video clips. Now you can with Instagram for Windows Phone 8.

And to capture videos, the Lumia 1520 features Nokia Rich Recording with four microphones, providing directional stereo recording capability to capture distortion free audio from the preferred direction.

You will also find the new Nokia Beamer app to share content, like pictures, location on a map or even your camera viewfinder from your Lumia to any compatible screen – with people in the same room or even in another location by sending them a link via social media, email or SMS.

The Lumia 1520 comes with Microsoft Office built in and it includes a massive battery with integrated wireless charging (Qi compatible).

The ability to show a third column on the Start screen isn’t just about scaling the experience of Windows Phone 8. It really is about getting to you favorite apps faster with less scrolling. For instance, the email app now shows one additional row of content in the Live tile, right on the Start screen.

The Lumia 1520's front-facing camera offers 1.2 HD 720p wide angle video. In addition, with the new Papyrus app coming to Windows Phone for the first time, you can take handwritten notes on your Nokia Lumia 1520.

This phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and has a full 1080p HD display, supporting graphics-intensive Xbox games. You will also find 2GB RAM built in, 32GB of storage, plus the option to add a microSD card (up to 64GB), as well as 7GB of free SkyDrive cloud-based storage.

The Lumia 1520 features a 6-inch screen with ClearBlack display technology, High Brightness Mode and assertive display technology by Apical. And when winter rolls in, wearing gloves won’t prevent you from using the screen thanks to the super sensitive touch screen with Gorilla Glass 2.

Similar to the Lumia 1520, the new Nokia Lumia 1320 also features a 6-inch screen and a wealth of features at a lower price.

The phone boosts a 720p HD screen made with Gorilla Glass 3, and features a sensitive touch screen. It includes Nokia Music and HERE Maps for great music and location experiences, and welcomes both Nokia Camera and Nokia Storyteller apps, available in the Windows Phone Store.

It has also LTE connectivity, 7GB of SkyDrive storage or with the addition of a micro SD card you can add up to 64GB more space.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is expected to begin selling this quarter in Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States, China and Europe (including Finland, France, Germany, and the UK), followed by other markets; and it has an estimated price of around $749 before local taxes and subsidies. AT&T will have exclusive on Nokia 1520 in the U.S.

The Nokia Lumia 1320 will be available in a choice of orange, yellow, black, or white, and is planned to be available first in China and Vietnam in early 2014, followed by other Asian markets, India and European markets. It carries an estimated price of $339 before local taxes and subsidies.

Many of the new features found in the Nokia Lumia 1520 and Nokia Lumia 1320 will be coming to existing Nokia Lumia smartphones running on Windows Phone 8 aligned with the next software update called "Lumia Black". The update, including the latest Windows Phone update from Microsoft, is expected to begin rolling out in early 2014.

The Nokia Asha 500, 502 and 503

Three new Asha smartphones join the next generation family with the launch of the Nokia Asha 500, 502 and 503.

These new phones feature a new layered design approach, offer the latest version of the new Asha Platform debuted on the Nokia Asha 501 earlier this year, and have updated specifications across the board.

A new hardware design combines two layers of polycarbonate: a coloured core, beneath a transparent layer. The combination captures and reflects light and colour without adding to the size or weight.

The Fastlane offers quick access, notifications and reminders for everything that’s important to you. From this second home screen, you can use a swipe gesture to simply take actions, whether that’s replying to a message or commenting on a friend’s photo.

New to the platform are an improved imaging experience, with much faster, swipe access to the camera, the gallery and social sharing, supported by improved hardware. It’s one tap to share a photo, while a single swipe takes you between the viewfinder and the gallery.

There’s also a more social and customisable experience on Fastlane, where you can now see counters for updates from Facebook and Twitter, and control what sort of content can appear on your screen. If you have privacy concerns about a certain app being able to write to Fastlane, you can block it from the settings.

Nokia also today announced the launch of the popular WhatsApp for new Asha Platform devices, including the Asha 501. New imaging apps like Picfeed, Pictag and Photofunia are also available for the new Asha phones.

Owners of the first Asha Platform device, the Asha 501, aren’t left out: they will receive the new features through a software update. All new Asha 501s shipped from the factory will also come with the new software.

The Asha 500 offers a 2.8-inch screen, a 2-megapixel camera and 2G telephony. Next up is the Asha 502 that comes with a 3-inch screen, a 5-megapixel with flash, and 2G again. At the top of the current family is the Asha 503: this one comes with 3-inch screen made from curved Gorilla Glass, a 5-megapixel camera with flash, and 3.5G speeds. The Asha 500 and 503 come in single- and dual-SIM variants, with our Easy Swap
technology on dual-SIM, which lets you swap cards without restarting the phone.
