Chinese Companies Eye Investments In OLED Panels

The demand for OLEDs in the near future years could force Chinese companies Huawei, VIVO and OPPO's parent company BBK and Royole, among others, start investing into flexible OLEDs by next year.

Chinese industry sources predict that an increased number of companies that are going to invest into display panels.

Huawei, OPPO, and VIVO are all smartphone manufacturers that have currently hold large market shares in China.

It is rumored that BBK has set up a separate company called MGV responsible for manufacturing display panels. BBK is said to plan the release of a new smartphone brand other than OPPO and VIVO and thus, the company will require more small and medium panels. MGV's goal is to produce 60,000 OLED panels per month by 2019.

The Chinese central government as well as local governments are actively supporting for investments in display panels, after all.

In addition, Royole is said to have set its OLED production goal lower; at 45,000 5.5th generation flexible and rigid OLED panels per month. Royole is planning to construct its production lines in Shenzhen.

Until now, most Chinese display makers have been acquiring LCD manufacturing equipment that has been already verified and tested by Samsung Display and LG Display. Moving on to OLED production is a good sign for the Chinese industry and economy, but Chinese companies should also weigh in their actual technical skills and yields they can achieve prior to investing.
