LG Adds New Quad DAC To Upcoming G6 Smartphone

LG Electronics disclosed that the G6 smartphone coming out late this month will be equipped with Quad DAC to augment its edge in audio sound.

Its latest hint of the new spec in the next G6 was a 32bit Quad DAC of audio chipmaker ESS. The DAC, or digital to analog converter, is a chip that switches sound sources that are composed of digital signals to analog signals that human can hear.

Compared to a single DAC, which was featured in the company's previous models LG V10 and G5, the Quad DAC comes with four DACs in one chip, reducing static noise by 50 percent, according to the company. LG Electronics put a Quad DAC on its V20 smartphone released last September for the first time among smartphone makers.

The new Quad DAC applied to the LG G6 is an upgraded version of the one in the V20 as it controls the left and right earphones separately to control the sound signals, the company said, adding that it can adjust the balance of sound allowing listeners to feel the stereoscopic feeling.

The new audio technology ensures a sound distortion rate as low as 0.0002 percent and minimizes the loss of acoustic information, the company claimed. The path for transmitting sound signals inside the chip has also been widened to allow listeners to enjoy large, high-quality sound sources without interruption.

Despite a slew of advanced features to its flagship smartphones, LG Electronics has been trailing behind its rivals in the global smartphone market.

The company will unveil its next flagship smartphone G6 on February 26 at Sant Jordi Club in Barcelona, Spain.
