Samsung Develops 5G Mobile Communication Chip

Samsung Electronics announced the commercial readiness of its 5G RF Integrated Circuit (RFIC) - a key component in the production and commercialization of next-generation base station and other radio access products.

With the latest development of a 5G Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit (RFIC) chip, the company can now advance commercial 5G mobile communication services which support a peak speed of up to 20Gbps. Samsung's new 5G RFIC chip is slated for use in the 28GHz mmWave spectrum band and it incorporates a RF technology Samsung announced in June last year.

Samsung said that the 5G RFIC chip allows to significantly reduce the size of base stations and communication equipment. Since 5G mobile networks need more base stations than 4G LTE networks, the weight and size reduction of base stations is required.

In addition, the 5G RFIC chip for wireless communication consumes the lowest power in the industry. Due to a sharp drop in power consumption, it can not only cut down on costs to operate networks but also dramatically increase the battery-power usage time of 5G communication devices.
