Facebook To Educate Users Identify Fake News

False news and hoaxes are harmful to everyone and Facebook's latest tool against the expansion of such information in users' News Feeds is to rolling out.

Facebook worked in consultation with First Draft, a non-profit dedicated to improving skills and standards in the reporting and sharing of information online, to roll out an educational tool. This tool is featured at the top of News Feed for a few days to people on Facebook in 14 countries.

When people click on this educational tool at the top of their News Feed, they will see more information and resources in the Facebook Help Center, including tips on how to spot false news, such as checking the URL of the site, investigating the source and looking for other reports on the topic.

Facebook has been criticized in recent months for failing to crack down fake news - stories that are demonstrably false but are written in order to generate internet traffic.

German politicians are pushing ahead with laws that could see the company fined up to €50 million for failing to deal with the problem.
