Samsung's Foldable Phone Coming Next Year, WSJ Claims

A new report from the Wall Street Journal is added to the rest that have surfaced so far, claiming that Samsung is planning to introduce a foldable-screen smartphone early next year.

The Samsung prototype, which bears the internal code name "Winner," according to the WSJ, features a screen that measures about 7 inches diagonally, roughly the size of a smaller tablet. The outside of the device would still have some sort of display. This phone could cost more than $1,500 and would first be marketed toward niche users.

Samsung has alredy patented a bendable phone design.

Other companies like ZTE have introduced folding phones. ZTE's Axon M was released in the US through AT&T, and it features two, non-flexible displays.

Samsung's Galaxy Watch to run Tizen OS

In related news, Samsung's new smartwatch, which is expected not to be launched under the "Gear" brand but under the "Galaxy" name, is said to run the latest version of Tizen OS as the company's smartwatches have been running until now.

SamMobile claims that the Galaxy Watch will run the latest version of Tizen OS, contrary to rumors that surrounded the change of Samsung's smartwatch brand: Since all Samsung's Galaxy products run Android operating systems, it could potentially mean that the smartwatch would follow suit. This doesn't appear to be the case.

The latest version of Samsung's wearable OS, Tizen 4.0, will reportedly run on the device out of the box along with the company's Bixby smart assistant.
