T-Mobile Says Customers' Data Accessed in Hack

T-Mobile Says Customers' Data Accessed in Hack

Enterprise & IT Nov 23,2019 0

T-Mobile confirmed that hackers accessed the company's customers' data in the US and Europe.

Affected customers in the US are being notified via a text message, which says that T-Mobile's cybersecurity team "discovered and shut down malicious, unauthorized access to some information related to your T-Mobile prepaid wireless account."

The company says that no financial data (including credit card information) or social security numbers was involved, and no passwords were compromised.

However, some personal information was exposed in this attack. This would have included name and billing address (if customers provided them when they established their account), phone numbers, account numbers associated with the prepaid services, and information about customers' rate plans and features.

The company says it has reported the breach to the authorities and that it has "a number of safeguards in place to protect your personal information from unauthorized access."

T-Mobile encourages affected customers who have received an email to confirm or update the personal identification number (PIN/passcode) on their T-Mobile accounts as additional protection.

For who didn’t receive a notification, that likely means their accounts were not among those impacted by the incident.
