Iomega 121032 writing speed problem
I have a new Iomega 121032 burner with factory version 1.06 firmware. I am getting only 8.5X average write speeds using Burnproof (BP). With BP disabled, buffer underruns are encountered. This is because the read speed to the buffer is less than 12X. I have both EZCD 4.03 and Feurio 1.51 installed, but Direct CD has been uninstalled. When burning an audio CD with EZCD, the buffer indicates only <10% capacity, while the buffer display with Feurio indicates that the buffer level bounces between 99% and 10%, ramping down every few seconds until the BP feature refills the buffer. I have run a maximum speed test with Feurio, which indicates a 20X minimum read rate, 31X average read rate, and recommends a 15X maximum write speed. So why can't the buffer "keep up" at 12X? I have a PII 233 MHz with Win98SE. My HD is on the pri IDE and the CDROM (Samsung SCR-3230) is master on the sec IDE while the CDRW is slave on the sec IDE. I have not yet configured the Iomega as the secondary master. There is an Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE controller on the motherboard. I have tried renaming the IOMEGA drive as a Plex 1210W-A, but the name makes no difference.

1. Switch the drives to make the CD-RW to master! 2. Enable DMA for both drives (in the Windows device manager)! 3. Try to get the latest firmware for your writer (but it's not so important) 4. Install some other CDRW software, like CDRWIN, Nero or Padus DiscJuggler
