When you use Windows Media Player with a DivX coded movie (.avi) then it should play it with the DivX codec.
How do you know if you are playing an AVI in divX mode? If you look at the settings in Media player while playing is says Mpeg 3 Layer Codec..

When you are playing avi file press right click>>properties>>Advanced
