Annualized Avearge Failure Rate (AFR)
Applies to the period prior to the expiration of component design life, and is based on failures chargeable to a particular disk manufacturer. (Provided he implements such a policy.)
Determination of the AFR takes into account:
a.) In-warranty field failure returns less quality acceptance-related failures and
b.) An AFR equaling an exponentially weighted moving and average monthly failure rate multiplied by 12.
