If you want a single board that does 3D and media tuning that comes with good software, and your budget means you're happy with the mid-range 3D performance and price of the X800 GT version, you're staring right at it...

My evaluation of such low-end hardware using the latest graphically challenging games might seem pointless at first glance. Look twice and you'll see that while both HyperMemory and TurboCache boards were generally really unhappy with the latest games, analysis of UT2004 shows that in older games (and to some extent new ones at very low resolution) they'll do fine. If your aim is to build a really cheap PCI Express-based gaming box for the kids, or to use a card as a stop-gap solution before you pick up something more powerful, they do fine...

The TV Wonder Elite encompasses everything an everyday consumer would need in a computer based TV solution. It is packed full of useful media viewing and recording options, has complete hardware based encoding and decoding, comes with its own RF remote control, is extremely simple to install and setup and is a good value for the money.

Dollar for dollar, you still just can't beat the value and features compressed into this one computer peripheral. It's a TV, it's a top notch gaming card, it's an FM Radio, it's a personal video recorder, well, I guess it is pretty darn well everything. You buy it, you install it and instantly your drab, boring computer has an amazing amount of potential and power needed to turn it into an excellent gamer or a home theater system...

The first thing we did was set the memory to run at a full 1 GHz and it had absolutely no problems running at that frequency. Playing nicely, we then raised the memory speed in 4 MHz intervals and 1.01, 1.02 and 1.10 GHz fell by the wayside. The maximum speed we got the memory to was 1.11 GHz, very good for an ATi Radeon X800 XL class videocard! The ATi Radeon X800 XL is a great value king, and if you get your hands on one, you're going to be a very happy gamer!

Some time last year nVidia re-introduced a multi-GPU solution for the home environment with the release of SLi. However, being the "first" to the market does have its dis-advantages with unexpected issues popping up. This is exactly what ATI is trying to capitalize at- carefully observing what was right about SLi and what could be improved upon. Lets find out how well ATI utilized their time working on their multi-GPU solution- Crossfire...

...ATI doesn?t seem to have done anything to iron out its software installation difficulties either, and it remains unnecessarily complex if things don?t go as they should at the first attempt, something that seems to depend as much on platform, existing drivers and current software on your system as it does on you having read the manual and knowing what you?re doing. There?s much to like about the hardware, particularly the new cable connection system, but the software doesn?t do it justice...

Our Far Cry tests show that there is a case for an X800 XL 512MB, but right now it's not really worth the extra over the 256MB version, especially as the price point is moving into X850 XT territory. However, the introduction of this card is interesting from a technology perspective and is a clear sign that the move to 512MB at the high-end is inevitable. We just need the games that will really take advantage of it.

With seven mainstream-performance PCI Express x16 graphics cards from ABIT, ATI, GeCube, Gigabyte, HIS, PowerColor and Sapphire competing into this shootout, one of these RADEON X700 PRO cards could be an excellent companion to your next PCI Express enabled system.

We have seen a few different AIW series cards from ATI and this first PCI-Express offering is a great all round video card. The options and the better cable management options are a bonus over the old style dongles. Seeing the addition of the DVI right on the board is also an added touch, however the use of the old Theater 200 chip was a little disappointing. I'd like to see how well this same card would have showed with the new Theater 550 chip? One other thing I was a little surprised to see or not see was the absence of a remote control of any kind.

ATI's Multimedia team took the time to get right a product that will appeal to many. Expensive in X800 XT guise, but worth it if seriously fast 3D and excellent multimedia ability in a single slot is what you're after. Seriously recommended for the well-heeled enthusiast that wants the integration of performance and multimedia features in one small space.

On an ending note, this product kicks some serious butt! I love the fact the TV is clear and the audio is syncronized in real time giving us one of the best TV Tuner experience to date. I recommend this product to anyone, from gamers to home user's to corporate environments and presentations. Everyone can get a little something out of this device and with the one of the most powerful chips on the market, you can't go wrong.

So you have weighed your options and you are deciding on the fastest ATI Radeon AGP videocard that money can buy. Even through there is plenty of X800XT standard edition available on the market, the Platinum Edition is only different because of its stock core and clock rates. The standard X800XT is clocked at 500Mhz core and 500Mhz memory but the Platinum Edition is stock clocked at 520Mhz core and 560Mhz memory.

If you are thinking of getting a new Radeon 9800 and hard-modding it into a FireGL X2, it is advisable to get the Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB with Samsung memory chips as there is a working BIOS for these cards. I already tested the BIOS image and it works well with my Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB. However, I don't recommend that you buy a new 256MB Radeon 9800 Pro or Radeon 9800XT to mod because you may not find any suitable hacked BIOS images for them.
