Today AMD launches their new cards based on the RV730 graphics processor. The Powercolor PCS HD 4670 we have on our testbench today comes with a dual slot heatsink which offers excellent cooling and low noise. Together with the serious gaming performance of this card, AMD has managed to successfully position their product in the sub-$100 segment.

Powercolor's latest HD 4850 PCS graphics card is based on the AMD HD 4850 reference design but comes with an improved cooler and slightly increased core clocks. While the overclock makes only a small performance difference, the cooler substantially improves the product. Even under load the PCS 4850 is barely audible which makes it the quietest graphics card ever tested - of all performance classes.

Interestingly, there seem to be few, if any drastic, architecture changes for HD 4000. It's all scale down, add more. PowerColor, a long-time board partner, shows just how well this strategy pays out for the HD 4850.Even side-by-side, this card looks just like a 3850. That's really superb, because not only was its predecessor small, clean, and fast, it was also quiet. The sticker's adornment is a busty, armored model in Viking chic. But it's a stock card, with the same design that you'd get with any 4850 currently available.

The new TV Wonder 600 PCIe TV tuner card is the PCI-Express x1 entry level model of the new series. This is also the first time that the TV Wonder series is available in Europe with the PAL standard. It can be used for analog or DVB-T signals and manages MPEG encoding by software. The card is built on a fancy purple PCB, comes with an extremely stylish IR receiver along with a remote and PowerCinema 5.

It has been quite some time since I have taken an entry level gaming card for a spin and PowerColor's AX3650 512MD2 has really surprised me. While you can't expect outrageous performance from a $70 card, you get pretty good gaming performance and a load of features to go with it. Overall great value.

No so long ago we saw the introduction of the Radeon HD 3870 X2 graphics card which is actually a high-end dual-GPU monster deducted from the Radeon HD 3870 graphics card. The Radeon HD 3800 series have brought a smile on many ATI enthusiasts who gotten a bit disappointed by the Radeon HD 2900 fiasco, if we can express in that way. So ATI went back to the design table and came up with a better and cheaper RV670 chip which brought back some competition with NVIDIA and also lowered the price extensively for some excellent performing video cards. Next, was to also come up with a better mid-range products and that is where the Radeon HD 3650 comes into the picture.

AMD's new HD 3650 is basically an improved version of the 2600 XT without any major technological advances other than a smaller die size resulting in cheaper cards. PowerColor's HD 3650 Extreme comes equipped with 512 MB of fast GDDR3 memory and runs at higher clocks than the AMD reference design.

AMD's partners haven't been afraid to play around with the Radeon HD 3850 to create cards that mix things up a bit - that's exactly what PowerColor has done here with its Radeon HD 3850 Xtreme PCS 512MB card. First and foremost, there's the clock speed increase, which takes this card to somewhere right in between the standard Radeon HD 3850 and Radeon HD 3870 cards at a price that's competitive. Not only that, but the card have twice as much video memory on-board-something that this class of card can definitely benefit from in many scenarios.
