Toshiba's latest AMD notebook offering proves that even those on a relative budget deserve a feature-packed model. Besides its 17-inch display, the P205D-S7479 offers nice harman/kardon speakers, a thumbprint reader, a large 250GB hard-drive, an ATI HD 2600 - all for a light price.

The big question is whether the 42Z3030D is worth the £350 premium over the excellent Toshiba 42X3030D, and ultimately the answer is yes. You're getting an extra HDMI port, 100Hz processing, xvYCC wide colour gamut, Deep Colour support and a more stylish design. And you'll be safe in the knowledge that this TV sits at the top of the Toshiba tree.

The Toshiba HD-A20 is priced at around $300 dollars and comes loaded with features. Not bad for an HD DVD player.

The Toshiba Portege R500 is an unbelievably light notebook, with a large solid state drive and an attractive price. Unfortunately, the disappointing screen and rattling keyboard let the package down. Ultimately, I'd be happy to put up with a little more weight, if it meant improved build quality, performance and usability.

Performance highlights of the Toshiba Regza 42X3000P (similar to 42X3030D but without digital TV Tuner) include 6.000:1 contrast ratio, 500 cd/m2 brightness, 8 msec response time, active backlight control, PIXEL PROcessing III PRO, 3D color management and Cross Color Noise Suppression. When connecting the Sony PS3 and using 1080p output the Toshiba Regza 42X3000P shows what it really is made for. The HD image is stunning and very crisp. Game footage looks sharp and clear.

If you have the money and want a multimedia notebook then the Qosmio G40-10E has you covered. An HD DVD-R drive and a superb display combine to great effect and, despite a few design foibles, a combination of size and design give it a distinct visual impact.

Toshiba's first truly budget LCD TV is a fair stab at balancing performance with price. But we can't help but feel that one or two other brands - most notably Samsung - do the cut-price thing rather better.

Attractiveness of its design may be debatable but there's no arguing it packs the right punch to meet the immediate needs of mainstream consumers.

The Toshiba drive isn't the fastest external drive around, but it more than makes up for what it lacks in speed on portability and ease of use. Typically, with external hard drives you need to plug them into a USB port to interface with your PC and plug them into the AC outlet to power the drive itself. Toshiba used a very power efficient notebook drive that can draw all of the power it needs directly from the PC USB port.

The G900 is a mixed bag. On the plus side, it has a big screen, great keyboard and the inclusion of Windows Mobile 6 makes it a highly practical mobile communications device and office companion. The fingerprint reader is also a bonus for those who want to keep sensitive information away from prying eyes. On the down side, it is bulky, heavy and battery life is disappointing.

So how small is the Portege G500? Not very, as it happens. Toshiba has opted for a slider format and this means that the device is rather chunky. It is not particularly tall or wide at 96mm tall and 49mm wide. But it is very thick at 22.9mm, and rather heavy at 135g. Compare these dimensions to those of Orange's SPV E650 (102 x 49 x 18mm and 130g) and there is a considerable difference in chunkiness, yet the SPV E650 has a full QWERTY keyboard hidden away under its long edge slider, while the Portege G500 can only muster a more usual number pad.
