While most of the rage these days for Intel hardware is about the P35 and X38 Chipsets, for those looking at an economically-minded motherboard that may not support all of the latest and greatest features but can still work well as a Linux desktop, Intel's P965 remains a great option. One of the motherboards fitting this criteria is the 4Core1333-Viiv from ASRock, which utilizes the Intel P965 + ICH8DH while is still compatible with Intel Core 2 Quad 1333MHz processors. Through ASRock's AGI Express, ATI CrossFire support is also possible using this budget motherboard. But how well does the ASRock 4Core1333-Viiv work under Linux? We'll tell you in this article as we do our usual compatibility and benchmarking roundabout.

While there has been criticism about the acquisition of ATI from the jolly green giant AMD, it has indefinitely produced one good thing, a stable platform for AMD to base its CPUs around. No longer will they have to rely on their third-party chipset manufacturers to make good platforms for them, now they can make their own and so far they have released one chipset under the AMD brand, the 690G. The 690G was well ahead of the GeForce 6100 and 6150 in terms of its HD ready design, it's able to accommodate a HDMI interface. AMD put its best foot forward and its taken until now for NVIDIA to come up with a counterpart, enter the GeForce 7050.

Today we will be taking a look at one of Asrock's newest motherboards based on Intel 945P chipset. Boasting most of the features of the Conroe1333 DVI/H plus more, the Conroe1333-eSATA2 is a full length board built for performance minded individuals. The board is specifically marketed to those who don't have the 'green' to run out and pick up a seriously high-end board from the likes of Asus, Gigabyte, and any of the Nvidia 680i reference board partners (e.g. BFG, EVGA etc).

P965 and P35 have been the boards of choice, but unfortunately they carry a bit more of a price premium due to the need for additional controllers for their IDE setups, in turn taking up more PCB space. The best option is to go back to the old school chipsets like the 945 and 946, until now it's been impossible to run Core 2 and Crossfire on them though, but thankfully the 945P "C" stepping has arrived. Today we have been given ASRock's Conroe1333 eSATA2 base motherboard for the mid-range to value level PC platform, hoping to snag users wanting Crossfire at a more reasonable price.

Today, we take a look at ASRock's latest ConRoe-1333-DVI/H micro ATX board aimed at the budget minded and put in the lowest priced Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2140 for a test drive. Hopefully, we can get some free performance by overclocking!

ASRock, which is best known for its budget motherboards, has put together a decent integrated HTPC motherboard called the ALiveNF7G-HDready. With onboard video care of a Geforce 7-series videocard and nVIDIA's PureVideo acceleration technology, this compact MicroATX mobo is the basis for a very versatile little rig. The ALiveNF7G-HDready has no problems playing H.264 HD-DVD or Blu-Ray movies at resolutions of 720P, 1080i / 1080P with a minimum 2GB of RAM installed and a CPU at least as powerful as an Athlon64 X2-5200+.

Last month we looked at the ALiveNF7G-HDReady from ASRock, which was a great budget motherboard that had integrated NVIDIA GeForce 7050 graphics that made it suitable for an HTPC or multimedia setup and it came topped with Gigabit LAN support and IEEE-1394 Firewire. We are back with ASRock today as we look at their ConRoe1333-DVI/H motherboard. ASRock's ConRoe1333-DVI/H is based on Intel's 945G Chipset and is compatible with Intel 1333MHz Core 2 Duo processors, uses GMA 950 graphics, and is home to many more features.

It has been a while since we last reviewed an ASRock motherboard, but this budget manufacturer has kept churning out new and more innovative products. The ASRock motherboard we have our hands on for this Linux and Solaris review is the ALiveNF7G-HDready, which combines NVIDIA's GeForce 7050 and nForce 630a MCP with a wealth of integrated extras such as IEEE-1394a Firewire to offer a rather good package for its low price. This motherboard is also capable of handling 720p H.264 video playback with low CPU Utilization and HDCP decoding through supported software.

Asrock has kindly sent over the Conroe1333-DVI/H, a board that easily fits into the categories listed above. Asrock proudly displays the Vista compatible logo on the box but it has a whole of other extras that make for an outstanding media center rig as well as a reliable workstation.

The ASRock ALiveNF5-eSATA2+ Socket AM2 motherboard is based on the nForce 520 chipset and offers many overclocking options for a very good price. It is not only easy to overclock with this board, it is also easy to underclock. For some users with 24/7 PCs it became a sport to underclock processors in order to lower the temperature and to lower the power consumption enormously. It was possible to run an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Socket AM2 CPU instead of the 1800 MHz underclocked down to 750 MHz and overclocked up to 2790 MHz.

When it comes to motherboards, the mATX format is not something that most people are just biting at the bit to get their hands on. While it has its place, it certainly is not mainstream. Even though that is true, it has not stopped ASRock from putting a lot of time into developing these tiny motherboards. They are perfect for HTPCs because of size. They are also great for putting together a budget system because...

This Review will clarify if the ASRock ALiveNF6G-DVI MicroATX motherboard with onBoard GeForce 6100 graphics solution and provided HDMR DVI-D card can convince in a normal course of HTPC life, and if it is high overclockable. The first look to the equipment already shows ASRock's main focus of this inexpensive mATX motherboard...
