As a serious High-End product, the NH-U12P effectively combines charismatic appearance with advanced technical design. It's an impressive cooler indeed - its working medium comprises a copper heat sink (45x42x5 mm), four 6mm copper heat pipes, a stack of large aluminum fins, and a 1300rpm fan.

In this review Frostytech is testing out Noctua's new NH-C12P heatsink. The NH-C12P comes bundled with Noctua's 120mm NF-P12 fan. Tower heatsinks may offer the best performance of any heatsink style, but many computer cases can't accommodate +140mm CPU cooler heights. 'Down exhaust' or 'impingment' heatsinks are so named because the fan blows downward. The overhanging portion of this heatsink has the added advantage of cooling devices adjacent to the CPU socket too.

Noctua has always fascinated me with their cooling solutions. They take the concept of product refinement to a new level, and often times simply tweak key areas of an existing design rather than reinventing the wheel. A perfect example of their research and development is found in the NH-U12P CPU cooler. This new product replaces their older NH-U12F model, and now features a NF-P12 cooling fan. Through the use of four heat-pipe rods configured in a "U" design, the NH-U12P borrows from the well-established performance record of many top-level coolers. Additionally, Noctua emphasises the complete experience beyond simply cooling the processor, and optimizes their products to operate with very low noise levels.

The NH-U12P is the newer version of the NH-U12. It has the same basic features as the NH-U12F, but is paired with the new Noctua NF-P12 120mm fan. The Noctua NH-U12P has shown that it preforms better than its older brother, the Noctua NH-U12F.

The Noctua NH-U9B is a refined take on the previously successful NH-U9 heatsink. This time around, Noctua nickel plate all copper surfaces and bundle in the super quiet NF-B9 fan - and it's not your average vaneaxial fan either. The NF-B9 is a flesh-toned fan with three key innovations; SSO bearings, vortex-control notches, and textured leading impeller surfaces.

Noctua has come up with another uniquely designed fan, the NF-P12. Although some might mistakenly think these are similar to their NF-S12 fans due to the colors used. They are completely different in design.

Noctua have a justified reputation of silent, yet powerful cooling. Partnering with the Austrian Institute of Heat Transmission and Fan Technology(!) allows some serious science behind their products, and as seen in the performance of their NT-H1 thermal paste we reviewed recently it seems to work. So it is with piqued interest that I will be looking at their 120mm-fan based cooler; the NH-U12P.

Noctua has gone and improved on an old favorite. The U12P offers some improvements that were most needed over its predecessor, the NH-U12. These improvements range from better performance to easier mounting. And if that isn't enough how about a better fan included in the package. If you can recall, the original cooler was a big hit with enthusiasts all over. With these tweaks who knows what the future has for those of us wanting it all from the newest CPU. Does the U12P have what it take to beat our reigning king, the Thermalright Ultra-120? Read on to find out.

All its splendor aside, it's a fantastic performer. It's easily the best, most capable cooler to cross this test bench. While it carries over the commonly seen tower design, the performance will easily be the deciding factor for the user who literally wants nothing but the coolest CPU possible. The Noctua NH-U12P is a great performer, it's cool, it's recommended, and it's my current top choice of CPU coolers.

Noctua does not disappoint with the NH-U9B. Outperforming almost all of our 120mm heatsinks, it is a phenomenal performer.

When you think of Noctua, you generally think of cooling. After all, these folks have been in the business of making cooling solutions for quite some time. Taking this into consideration, it should come as no surprise to see this Austrian company getting involved in the TIM race. After all, what good is a high-end cooler without a quality material to work as an intermediary? Of course, getting into the middle of a heated market of thermal interface material could prove a challenge. There have been many newcomers hitting the streets with their own special goop and most have sent the vaunted Arctic Silver compound to the curb, so we will need to see if the cooling specialists at Noctua can keep up, or even surpass, the other guys.

Noctua has been known for serving up one of the best coolers on the market. I am sure most of us have heard of the NH-U12P. It was one of the top coolers on every website's list. And coupled with their newest fan the NF-P12 there aren't too many coolers that can come close. Now take this cooler and fan and throw in the NT-H1 and you have everything you need to cool that new processor. So do we have another compound that is capable of taking down the old king? We will find out soon.

All things considered, Noctua's NH-U12P performed admirably well. The cooler's design and build quality are excellent. In terms of compatibility issues, there were none - the cooler has ample clearance from memory and other components. Also, it can be rotated and thus can be installed in two different orientations. The only clearance issue that might arise is due to its height as it may interfere with some cramped cases. Installation was very easy except for the fact that it requires motherboard removal. Performance is top notch and it is easy on the ears thanks to the quiet NF-P12.
