The RADEON X850 XT P.E. is ATI's upgrade to the previous champion in its product lineup and now it is finally available to those still reluctant to upgrade their AGP based motherboards or for those who use relatively young AGP platforms. Using a variation of the core for the PCI Express version, the R481, and with a slight speed boost compared to the RADEON X800 XT P.E., the RADEON X850 XT P.E. is without doubt the fastest ATI graphics card currently in the AGP camp and its performance in our benchmarks can attest to that.

Sapphire is among the earliest to debut their RADEON X800 XL 512MB solution to the masses. Improvising upon the stock design, it comes with a robust and quiet cooler, VIVO functions, dual DVI interfaces and a swell bundle. Find out how it fared and our thoughts on 512MB consumer graphics cards in general...

Sapphire's All-in-Wonder X800 XT for AGP does enough to keep its jack-of-all-trades flame burning. The presence of an RBG capable SCART and dual outputs is welcome, but the lack of a DVB Tuner and the clunky software are downers. Still, the performance, versatility and value for money can't be argued with.

ATI's RADEON X800 XT Platinum Edition may grab all the headlines when it comes to both its premium price and top of the class performance but as the Sapphire RADEON X800 XT shows, the normal version is no slouch either. Only the core and memory speeds of the X800 XT are slightly inferior to its more prominent sibling but with some judicious overclocking, the Sapphire RADEON X800XT responds with some impressive numbers that brings it close to the performance level of a Platinum Edition.

If you can't stretch the budget to a X800 XL the X800 is a good alternative and at £166 it's not too far off the price of a single 6600GT. For those that don't want the costs associated with going down nVidia's SLI route it's a sensible choice.

The Sapphire X850 XT is a great card, plain and simple. I honestly did not find anything about this card which I didn't like. The X850 XT retails for around $450, or about $150 less than the cheapest X850 XT Platinum Edition. Since there is only a 20MHz/100MHz (core/memory), and the lack of HD ability, the X850 XT is a much better deal in my opinion for the gamer budgeting for one of the fastest cards on the market.

The X800 really helps to fill out the ATI card offerings. The X800 delivers outstanding performance and is able to challenge the X800 XT when fully overclocked in some tests. Are games your life but you don't have the $500+ to fork over for the best? When you are on a tight budget a $200 difference in price is HUGE... hell, even if your budget isn't tight $200 bucks is allot of cash. At stock speeds the X800 earns it's keep and is very worthy of it's price tag.

So you don't have allot of cash but you want to do some SERIOUS gaming? This is your card plain and simple (if you have support for the PCIe interface). This card is a very welcome addition to the ATI PCIe line since it fills a HUGE gap that was between the X800 and X600 cards. This card offers very nice frame rates and image quality at an affordable price.
