The Sapphire HD5550 Ultimate Edition we are looking at today is a passively cooled solution and is modestly priced at around £70 inc vat in the UK. Could this be the perfect, cool running, low power HTPC card with DX11 support?

?The Sapphire Radeon 5550 Ultimate is a low-power, passively cooled, budget graphics card, marketed to consumers who may be interested in something for their HTPC or the occasional foray into some light gaming. It's almost the baby of the 5000 series Radeon cards, with the 5450 sitting one rung lower, but continues to attempt to offer good value for those people with a very moderate budget.?

?This limited edition Sapphire 5850 Toxic graphics card sports a huge 2GB of memory, up from the usual 1GB. This should help when running antialiasing at higher resolutions, so we'll do exactly that on several very demanding games. But the Toxic also comes with the same impressive Vapor-X technology known for running cool and quiet, we well as a good factory overclock to boot. Gotta love this combination of features.?

?Between ATI's Radeon HD5850 and HD5770 is a gap in terms of performance and price in their lineup. Looking to close that gap is the Radeon HD5830. Sounds pretty simple, but there is a catch. The catch here is the 5830 isn't a new card, not at least in the traditional sense. Instead, ATI has recycled a piece of their current lineup in order to fill the need, and the 5830 is essentially a neutered 5870 that couldn't pass strict binning criteria. Sapphire has taken the 5830, installed a heatsink with some heatpipes, slapped on a Modern Warfare 2 sticker, and tossed in a free copy of the game. Let's take the Sapphire Radeon 5830 1GB for a spin and see how it stacks up against the competition.?

Before AMD has a chance to launch another Radeon 5-series GPU and finally offer a top-to-bottom line-up, Sapphire Technology is taking the opportunity of bringing special-edition treatment to the Radeon HD 5850. First released in September 2009 and in supply constraint for most of the year, Radeon HD 5850s are now available from most etailers, starting at around £215 and rising to £265 for pre-overclocked models. Sapphire, then, is hoping to bridge the gap that exists between the HD 5850 and HD 5870 with a duo of cards, both pre-overclocked, that go under the established Vapor-X and TOXIC banners. We take a brief look at the £270 TOXIC model - the higher-specified of the two - and determine whether it makes financial sense. Read on to find out.

"There's been word floating around that the HD 5670 is quite the overclocker with it running into no problems achieving the maximum GPU clock of 850MHz that is offered via the Overdrive functionality inside the Catalyst driver suite. With our Sapphire HD 5670 sitting around and not doing a whole lot, we thought it was time to throw it back into the testbed and see if we could not only max out the overclock of the card via the Overdrive feature, but also see what kind of performance increase we can achieve from doing so."

?A few months ago, ATI released their new 5000 series of gaming cards. On January 14, 2010, they released the first of the mainstream cards of that series, the Radeon HD 5670, sporting the 40nm process, with 400 streaming processors and a 775mHz clock. Sapphire has built three versions of the HD 5670, a 1GB model and two 512MB models. Today I will be looking at the top of the line HD 5670, which has a full gig of GDDR5 memory clocked at 1000mHz. Read on to check out the Sapphire Radeon HD 5670!"

"The Sapphire 5770 Vapor-X obviously sports Sapphire's renowned Vapor-X cooler, and from what we've seen so far with this technology, it is outstanding. We expect more of the same today with this mainstream gaming card, so let's take a closer look at what the 5770 Vapor-X brings to the table in terms of performance, framerates, and temperatures.?

The Radeon 5000 series of graphics cards were rather recently released by AMD/ATI and for the very first time in a couple of years, AMD/ATI (hereafter referred to as only AMD) is back in the performance lead. NVIDEA will release their next generation of graphics cards rather soon but no date is set and very little information about it has leaked to the press.

"The Sapphire Vapor-X HD5750 has a look all its own. Though, looks aren't what the Vapor-X is all about; it's about performance. Using their patent pending Black Diamond Chokes they can offer a card that is 10% cooler and offers 25% more power efficiency than other cards that use the normal chokes. To keep things even cooler this card uses the Vapor-X cooler. A key point for me aside from performance (which the Vapor-X has plenty of) is the noise, or lack thereof. Throughout the testing I never heard a peep out of the fan. The test I was sure I would hear the fan on was the power consumption test. I disabled all the other fans in the system so that they wouldn't fluctuate speed and power, and I still couldn't hear the fan on the Vapor-X while it was set on auto..."

"The main focus of the Vapor-X series is cooling. With that said, though, it doesn't mean Sapphire can't have a bit of fun with the clock speeds. What we?ll do before we have a closer look at those clocks is check out what's going on in the bundle. After that we'll then take a closer look at the card and see the new cooler that Sapphire is giving us. If all that wasn't exciting enough, the HD 5870 Vapor-X from Sapphire is the first card that's going to be taken for a spin on our new benchmark setup. While the hardware hasn't changed due to the simple fact it's still some of the best on the market, we have moved to the new DirectX 11 enabled Windows 7 and also added a whole slew of new benchmarks including some new synthetic ones and real world games."

It's no secret that the Radeon HD 5870 is the fastest GPU on the planet, but what do you get when you take it, toss in a more robust cooler, quieter operation, higher clock speeds and not one, but two free games? You get the Vapor-X, from Sapphire. Despite all that it packs in above the reference version, it modestly carries just a $20 premium.

Sapphire's Vapor-X Radeon HD5870 takes a top of the line single GPU graphics card and enhances it in a few areas to make it even more appealing. The 3D performance is definitely impressive, but the fact that it stays cool, quiet, and doesn't send the electric meter spinning seems like an even greater accomplishment.
