3CCD JVC Pro HDV camcorder 'on way'

3CCD JVC Pro HDV camcorder 'on way'

Consumer Electronics Sep 12,2004 0

JVC Professional is using the IBC show in Amsterdam to show off a mock-up of its first 3CCD HDV camcorder. Hidden in a private meeting room, the camcorder is essentially an HDV version of the broadcast-styled DV5000E. Few details were available, and the shown mock-up was not a working model. JVC said that the as-yet unnamed camcorder would use 2/3-inch CCDs instead of the DV5000E's 1/2-inch devices, most likely to allow for the greater resolution, and will have the DV5000E's 1/2-inch bayonet lens mount. The company also expects the new camcorder to work with the majority of the DV5000E's accessories, including lenses.

JVC was the first company to release an HDV camera, creating the GR-PD1 for consumers and its HD10, XLR audio-enabled cousin. The HD10 has been popular in the UK, even though it records at 30fps instead of 25fps. JVC also used the show to demonstrate Canopus Edius editing converted 30fps footage from the HD10 in 25fps.
