Adaptec SCSI Power Now Available for Macintosh PowerBooks

Adaptec SCSI Power Now Available for Macintosh PowerBooks

General Interest Jan 6,2000 0

"..Adaptec announced today the availability of the PowerDomain SlimSCSI 1480 CardBus adapter for Apple PowerBook users. The new CardBus adapter offers PowerBook users the added performance and connectivity options that Mac desktop SCSI users enjoy today.

Based on the CardBus specification, the PowerDomain SlimSCSI 1480 takes advantage of the PowerBook's 32-bit PCMCIA slot to deliver speeds up to 20 MBytes/sec., a data transfer rate that is four times greater than the performance of the built-in SCSI in today's PowerBooks. With this level of performance, Ultra SCSI hard drives, removable drives, scanners and CD-R/RW drives can all operate at their maximum speeds rather than be limited by the slower built-in SCSI interface.

The new CardBus SCSI adapter works with Old SCSI Manager and SCSI Manager 4.3 to ensure unparalleled compatibility of new and legacy SCSI devices. Because Adaptec's implementation of Old SCSI Manager strictly adheres to the entire range of Apple's guidelines it is the most robust and compatible CardBus adapter available today. PowerDomain SlimSCSI 1480 provides the convenience of a hot swappable card for maximum productivity, and is designed to the 3.3 volt standard so that battery drain from the PowerBook is minimized.

PowerDomain SlimSCSI 1480 is sold as a kit that includes the SlimSCSI card, a high density 50-pin cable and a 20%-off coupon for a DB25-pin or 50-pin low density cable. Utilities that add functionality to the card and an installation guide are also part of the kit. PowerDomain SlimSCSI 1480 is available now through resellers, retailers and catalogs, and through Adaptec's online store at an MSRP of $149. Order direct by contacting Adaptec Inside Sales at 1-800-442-7274, email inquiries to sales@adaptec.com, or visit the online store at www.adaptec.com.

Adaptec offers the broadest range of highly reliable and compatible SCSI cards for the Macintosh platform, ranging from the new PowerDomain SlimSCSI 1480 to the PowerDomain 39160 that provides a data transfer rate of 320 MB/sec over two channels.
