D-Link Brings AI-Powered Person and Glass Break Detection to Wi-Fi Cameras at CES 2020
D-Link cameras can now tell the difference between people and other objects.
The networking company announced the new feature, along with break glass detection, which both utilize AI that works on-the-edge rather than in the cloud. They also increased onboard storage capacity, and wired Ethernet capability for more stable connections as part of their new cameras ahead of CES next week.
Along with providing accurate notifications, D-Link's two latest cameras now offer three ways to save video. The first is ONVIF Profile S, which enables custom storage and streaming options to personal NAS devices. D-Link has also expanded the built-in storage microSD capacity to 256 GB while continuing to offer free and paid cloud storage options. All options work with the mydlink app used to view live and saved video.
This year's camera models include both an indoor and an outdoor model. The outdoor model features a spotlight and siren that can be triggered when motion is detected, deterring potential intruders. The indoor model pans around to give a full 360-degree view of any room and tracks motion. Both include two-way audio.
These additions will be available later this year:
- Full HD Pan and Tilt Pro Wi-Fi Camera (DCS-8302LH), Q2 2020, $99.99
- Full HD Indoor and Outdoor Pro Wi-Fi Camera (DCS-8526LH), Q3 2020, $119.99
New Routers
The global networking company also announced new products all running mesh Wi-Fi ahead of the Wi-Fi Alliance's release of Wi-Fi EasyMesh technology, with some of the routers also incorporating the new Wi-Fi 6 standard.
Enhanced parental controls include an interactive, tap-and-set interface that enables parents to create profiles for each member of their family. From there, they can add devices and set schedules.
Other features will include WPA3 encryption support, BSS coloring, voice compatibility with Alexa and Google Assistant, IFTTT integration, and access to support, including chat, through the D-Link Wi-Fi app.

New 5G Solutions
Offering speeds up to 3 Gbps, D-Link's new 5G wireless solutions will help service providers take advantage of the expected adoption of 5G networks in 2020.
D-Link's 5G NR Enhanced Gateway now features a sub-6 GHz wireless frequency that matches what many service providers will use for wireless communication between towers and home units. It also delivers AX3000 Wi-Fi between devices in the home and the unit.
The Enhanced Gateway is joined by two additional models—a 5G gateway utilizing sub-6 GHz frequency and AC2600 Wi-Fi and a 5G NR Outdoor Unit that supports both sub-6 GHz and mm-Wave.
