GIGABYTE Presents 2011 Socket Board With Integrated 10 Gigabit Ethernet
GIGABYTE has just announced the the GA-6PXSVT, its first single 2011 socket based workstation motherboard featuring an integrated 10 Gigabit Ethernet LAN controller.
Designed for professional users, the ATX motherboard features ultra-fast networking, supports the Intel Xeon E5-1600 V2 & E5-2600 V2 processors and up to 256GB of ECC memory.
Until now, the most common way to add 10GbE capabilities were through add-in cards, or buying motherboards with them on board. But GIGABYTE's GA-6PXSVT single socket LGA2011 motherboard implements a single SFP+ 10GbE port on the rear panel, coupled with two additional GbE ports. It is equipped with Intel's third generation 82599EN 10GbE controller and a low latency SFP+ interface.
By combining the native SATA capabilities of the Intel C602 chipset with an extra Marvell 88SE9230 controller, the GA-6PXSVT boasts 10 SATA III 6Gb/s and 4 SATA II 3Gb/s ports.
The processor socket, the memory DIMMs and the PCI-Express slots being all oriented in the same direction in order to help deliver optimal airflow performance to keep the temperature of the components low. In addition, the motherboard can be used in both rack and tower integration.
The support of Intel Xeon processors E5-1600 V2 & 2600 V2 product families delivers the benefits of the 22nm tri-gate process technology. Those benefits include, among others, higher frequencies, higher core counts (up to 12 cores / 24 threads) and larger last-level caches, but also a much more varied mix of core/frequencies with the introduction of a new dual socket workstation segment.
Finally, virtualization applications will benefit from the Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller (APIC) technology, and more security features are included in the mix as well, such as the Intel Platform Protection Technology with OS Guard, and Intel Data Protection Technology with Secure Key.
The GA-6PXSVT will be released in the next few weeks.
